Throughout the year we aim to raise additional funds through fundraising events such as Bingo Nights and Raffles, as well as applying for various grants and donations. If your employer runs a charitable donation scheme please find out the details and let us know!
It is Group policy that any additional fundraising that is carried out is used to develop group activities and provide improved resources and is not used to subsidise the level of subscriptions.
It’s never been easier to show your support and raise some funds for our Group! Simply look up easyfundraising.org.uk and register your details and choose the 1st Flint Scout Group as your charity. When shopping online you can earn donations for our group at no cost to yourself. Please pass on the details to family and friends to help us earn more!
The Group is now able to recover income tax on any donation, including subscriptions. The only criteria is that the individual making the donation has to pay income tax or capital gains tax of at least the amount to be recovered by the Group. Please ask Akela for the relevant form if you are able to do this.
One of the things that makes Scouting different from many youth organisations is that we have a uniform which is different for each section. Your young person does not need to wear uniform for the first few weeks whilst they are ‘trying out’ Cubs! Cub Scout uniform is a dark green sweatshirt and green polo shirt. Comfortable trousers/joggers (no jeans) or activity trousers are advised as well as comfortable footwear. Each Scout Group has a necker in its own colours – 1st Flints is yellow with a scarlet red border (these are supplied by Akela upon Investiture). Cubs will receive a ‘woggle’ to wear with their necker upon Investiture. The colour of the ‘woggle’ indicates which Six they are in.
New uniform items (except necker, woggle and badges which can only be supplied by Leaders), may be purchased from https://shop.scouts.org.uk or from Forresters Sports in Mold or at various online shops. Cub sweatshirts are generous in sizing, its always better to order a bigger size to see them through their time in Cubs. A diagram showing the positioning of badges on the uniform will be supplied upon Investiture.
All Invested members (Leaders, Beavers, Cubs & Scouts) are expected to wear the full uniform to weekly meetings unless advised otherwise. Please note that at Parade attendances Cubs will be required to wear school trousers and shoes with their Cub sweatshirt. Certain events, such as Sleepovers and travel to and from camps require full uniform to be worn. We expect Cubs to ensure their uniform is clean and tidy with all badges sewn on in their correct position, and that their necker is folded and ironed correctly. Weekly inspections take place and we expect Cubs to ‘be prepared’ for this!
After a few weeks of attendance at Cubs the Cub Scout Leader will advise you when your young person will be Invested into the Group. They will have been given a ‘Cubs Activity Log Book’ which they will keep for the duration of their time in Cubs. If this is lost there is a replacement charge of £2. Prior to Investiture your young person will be given Investiture Training which will help them understand what Scouting is about, what they can expect from Scouting and what is expected of them. A uniform is required for this ceremony at which membership badges, woggle and necker will be presented (there is a charge of £7 for these items and should they be lost there will be a replacement charge).
We keep in touch with our parents in various ways. First and foremost is OSM (Online Scout Manager) which is our dedicated Scout database and all communications come through this including general emails, event invitations and payments and also allows Parents to keep an eye on their young persons Badge progress through their time in Scouting. Please read and respond to email requests from OSM as soon as possible. Please ensure your young persons information is up to date at all times.
We also have a dedicated Facebook page – 1st Flint Cubs – This is a ‘closed’ facebook page only open to active members of 1st Flint Cubs. Please send a Friend Request to gain access.
WhatsApp group – Parents/Guardians will be invited to join this group, this is the quickest way of keeping in touch. You can let us know if your child is unable to attend or ask any questions.
Please note that only Parents/Guardians will be invited to join these groups. Please do not share photographs from these groups on Social Media without the express permission of the parents/guardians of all children involved.
